Daniel Konopelski takes a step back from hosting Wardy trivia.
Buying a pitcher of beer and preparing yourself to be stumped by The Wardroom’s iconic trivia host is a King’s canon event. Daniel Konopelski’s trivia questions are niche and full of deep cuts.
One of those questions was “where did Sam Denby from Jet Lag: The Game hide in season nine, episode four, in Switzerland?”
Konopelski says that question had players asking him, “Daniel, why?”
The answer was Winterthur, a city in northern Switzerland he had travelled to in July during his own European trip.
He has been hosting since March 2023 and has now stepped aside to make room for some new hosts. But never fear, he is still involved in trivia nights as the informal advertising director.
“Right now, I have a lot on my plate,” says Konopelski. “I’m working on my thesis this year which is a huge academic priority.”
He says he is looking forward to seeing other students continue his legacy and try hosting trivia for themselves.
His advice for upcoming hosts is “have fun and add a little bit of yourself into it. Add some things that are niche to you and focus on being authentic.”
Through his new role, he will be making posters and hints for future trivia hosts’ questions.
Outside of trivia, Konopelski, age 22, is an international student from Illinois. If you’re a King’s student, you might have seen him around. His many roles on campus include being a residence community engagement assistant, student ambassador on campus tours, and a patrol staffer.
He will be graduating this spring with a combined honours degree in contemporary studies and social anthropology.
On Nov. 1, 2024, student Leah Parker led the first guest-hosted general trivia night after Konopelski’s announcement.
“It’s a new experience,” says Parker. “It’s fun doing something new that you haven’t tried before.”
If you are interested in hosting your own trivia night, contact The Wardroom management to get started.
If you love Konopelski’s trivia nights, you’ll be happy to hear that he will be hosting the final trivia night of the school year as a ceremonial send-off.
“Trivia really shows my expertise in a lot of different fields,” says Konopelski. “But I like doing it just for the fun of it.”
