Five holiday DIY gifts with stuff you probably have at home

2–3 minutes

The holidays are fast approaching, and if you’re anything like me, your bank account is not ready. Here are 5 gifts you can make for friends and family with materials you probably have at home.

1. Painted jar

Stop throwing out your jars, take that jar your pasta sauce came
in and clean it out. You can paint, draw or colour on it. Add
personal touches that you know your friends and family will
love. If you already have a gift you can still do this craft, just
put it in the jar instead of wrapping it to add a personalized touch.

2. String of hearts

Take that FYP book that you hated, and enjoy cutting it
into pieces hearts (or whatever shape you want). Take a
string, if you don’t have string you probably have a friend who does, you’re a King’s student after all. Thread the hearts onto the string and you’re done.

3. Scrapbook CD

Take a CD you never listen to or an old movie DVD and start
scrapbooking on it. If you are giving it to a friend you can put
pictures of the two of you on it. If you are like me and wanted
to make it for yourself, you can tear up a bunch of book pages
and glue those onto the CD. There are so many different ways you could take this idea. Be creative!

4. Painted Rocks

Go outside and find a few rocks. Take them inside and
paint whatever you want on them. If you are making
them for a friend you could reference an inside joke. I
tried to do Mike Wazowski and an M&M, but there are
so many different ways you can take this idea.

5. Bookmarks

Find an old magazine, book or comic, use and already existing
bookmark to trace the size (or freehand it) and start cutting. I took
an old Smurfs magazine, but you can take literally any paper that
has a cool design. If you want to take it a step further you can put clear tape over the bookmark to laminate it.
