To our sweet, beloved King’s,
Oh, how we’ve missed you. We know you’ve missed us too. Many of you don’t know who we are. Heart breaking, we know. So, allow us to reintroduce ourselves. We’re The Watch. Your student run magazine right here on King’s campus.
So, what happened to us? And why were you robbed of us for so many years? Well, back in 2020 we decided to kill print. Printing services just didn’t fit into our budget at the time. So, the editors cut the physical magazine to see if The Watch could survive solely online. After a year of not seeing us on campus, you started to forget us. And from there we slowly faded away. (We all know what else happened in 2020. Yeah, that affected us too.) From there we went on hiatus, and it’s been over a year since we’ve published anything at all. But there’s no need to be sad, dear reader, because The Watch has come out of hiatus. You’ve heard whispers about us on campus. Now we’re back in print.
We’re not the same magazine that you let fade into the background. We’re rebranding. Personally, we feel we’ve become too stuffy in the last few years. I’m not sure who thought we were some stuck-up news company. What are we, The Gazette? We’re still asking the hard questions you want to know on campus, but we’re bringing it to you with a whole lot of King’s culture. And don’t blame us if we get a little snarky along the way.
It’s been a busy summer. The executive team has been hard at work making sure we had an issue ready for you as quickly as possible. Everything in here has been fully written and produced by our editorial staff.
Gabby, Ella, Eamon, Liv, Clara, and Emma, this is my love letter to you all. You have worked so hard to help me turn the Watch into something I think the students are going to love. For that I am eternally grateful.
So, without further ado, we give you our September edition.
Your editor-in-chief,
Maria Collins
