Letter From the Editor — January 2025

1–2 minutes

Dear King’s,

As we release our first issue of the new year, I can’t help but think about what lies ahead. As I begin my final semester at King’s, I find myself looking back on my time here. I am humbled and beyond proud of the work we’ve done with The Watch

There are only two issues left this year, which means preparations have begun for September. We’ve started our search for the next generation that will take over The Watch. And let me tell you, it’s both daunting and exciting. I can’t imagine stepping away from this thing we built together. You, dear reader, are integral to making us who we are. But I am ecstatic with what we have planned for our next two issues.

As many of us try to stick to our New Year’s resolutions, promising better versions of ourselves, my hope for The Watch is to continue doing what we’re doing: producing quality journalism and bringing you the stories you want to read. After all, we’re already perfect. What resolutions are there to make? No, but honestly – we’re aware of our shortcomings and working to get better every day.

We’re coming into the new year hot with this issue. We continue to hone our identity and define what The Watch is in 2025. You may notice our layout is a bit different, our editing is a bit tighter, and our content is once again more visually engaging. We heard both your praise and criticisms (but let’s be honest, mostly praise) and this month, we are bringing you more of what you love.

We are living in uncertain times. I know for many of you, it can be scary. It seems the world is constantly changing, and it’s hard to keep up. We hope you can rely on The Watch to be your beacon of light as you navigate this darkness.

With that in mind, this month, alongside the biggest stories on campus, we’re bringing you lots of fun, some feel-good stories, and our best advice.

Take care and enjoy our January issue.

Your editor-in-chief,

Maria Collins
